He has previously served as a Research Fellow at the Center for Global Trends and International Organizations of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry, PIR Center «Russia and Nuclear Nonproliferation» Program Director and the Editor-in-Chief of monthly e-bulletin “Yaderny Kontrol” (“Nuclear Control”). In 1993, he graduated from the Faculty of Cybernetics of Moscow Institute of Radio Electronics and Mathematics. In 2002, he became Chevening Scholarship Programme Laureate and obtained a Master Degree in Communication Management at Strathclyde Graduate Business School (UK). In 2012, he studied at the summer school of robotics in Imperial College of London. Since 2013, he has been a postgraduate student at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations. He is the author of a number of scientific papers on Russian innovation ecosystem and the co-author of the report of Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology on new production technologies.

From 1994 to 2011, he worked in medium and large Russian telecommunication companies – "Aerocom", "Equant" and Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) Group. In MTS, he was responsible for the development and implementation of IT strategy and interaction with business.

In 2011, he was appointed to the position of IT-projects Director in the Cluster of Information Technology of Skolkovo Fund. In 2011-2014, he developed a number of projects to support small high-tech enterprises, Skolkovo participants in the field of IT penetration into health care, communication and computer vision. In 2013-2014, he worked as a public secretary of the Expert Council of the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation for the development of the information technology industry.

In 2013, he organized the first Russian conference on robotics - Skolkovo Robotics. Since August 2014, he has been heading Robotic Center of Skolkovo Fund, the main goal is the acceleration of entrepreneurial activity in the field of robotics and cyberphysical systems. Born in 1972 in Rostov-on-Don. In 1995 he graduated with honors the faculty of history of the Rostov State University, and in 1998 he finished his postgraduate studies there. He defended his doctoral thesis in the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1999; member of the Russian Union of Journalists (since 1998). Dr. Markedonov is the author of two books, 200 articles and over 300 media publications on sociopolitical development of the Caucasus, problems of interethnic relations and conflicts, religious situation in the Caucasus and in the postSoviet space. His articles were published in Izvestia, Moscovskiye Novosti, Nezavisimaya Gazeta, Politichesky Zhurnal, Znamya, Novy Mir, Apologiya. Colonel General (Ret.), one of the founders of Russia's programs for international cooperation in the dismantlement of surplus armaments, an accomplishment recognized by the award of several government honors, including the Order of the Red Star, Order for Service to the Fatherland, and many medals. A leading expert on nuclear security, nuclear weapons reductions, and verification mechanisms. Laureate of the Russian State Prize. Worked in USSR/Russian Ministry of Defense organizations for more than 40 years, including from 1992-1997 as head of the Russian Ministry of Defense 12th Main Directorate, which is responsible for the security of nuclear munitions. Author of many publications in Russian and English, including articles on nuclear security, the Cooperative Threat Reduction program, and nuclear nonproliferation. He was awarded the Order of Military Merit and the Order of Courage.

PhD in History, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1968, he graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology of the Institute of Asian and African countries of Moscow State University (later Institute of Oriental Languages), where he specialized in the study of the history of Arab countries and the Arabic language. In 1966-1967, he had an interned at Cairo University and  American University in Cairo (Egypt). In 1968-1970 he served as an officer in the Soviet Army, taught at the Military Institute of Foreign Languages of the Defense Ministry. Since 1972, he began teaching medieval history of the Arab world, Islamic studies and modern political development of the Arab countries in the IAAC MSU. In 1972-1977, worked at the Graduate School of Social Sciences in the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen. Twenty years of his career devoted to the Institute of Oriental Studies under the Russian Academy of Sciences, where he was the Head of Department of the Arab Countries, then served as Deputy Director of the Institute, and throughout 1994-2009 – Head of the Center for Arab Studies. He is also President of a non-profit NGO “Center for Strategic and Political Studies,” Editor-in-chief of the “Vostok/ORIENS” journal, member of the advisory Scientific Council under the Security Council of Russia. He leads the Department of Regional Studies at the Faculty of World Politics at Moscow State University. Her book “The Role of Illicit Drug Business in the Political Economy of Conflicts and Terrorism” (Moscow, 2005) has won the medal for young scientists from the Russian Academy of Sciences.
