Biography :

Candidate of Historical Sciences. He retired from the Russian Army in 1993. From 1993-1997, Trenin held posts as a Senior Research Fellow at the NATO Defense College in Rome and a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Europe in Moscow. He served in the Soviet and Russian armed forces from 1972 to 1993, including experience working as a liaison officer in the External Relations Branch of the Group of Soviet Forces (stationed in Potsdam) and as a staff member of the delegation to the U.S.-Soviet nuclear arms talks in Geneva from 1985 to 1991. He also taught at the war studies department of the Military Institute from 1986 to 1993. Dmitry Trenin received his Ph.D. from the Institute of the USA and Canada in 1984. PIR Center Advisory Board member since 2002.

Biography :

PhD in Technical Science, professor. Expert of the Russian Foreign Ministry on the information security.  Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. Born in 1933. In 1961 he graduated from the FE Dzerzhinsky Military Academy. In 1966  defended the thesis. Since 1967 worked at the Central Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense. In 1976 defended the doctoral dissertation. Retired colonel. In 1988-1991 headed the independent Research Center of National Security. In 1992-1993 worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) as a director of the international program "Support of the solutions in the field of international security and strategic stability." In 1995-2001 – an expert at the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. Research interests are the methodological and methodical problems of mathematical modeling of social and economic processes; decision making theory; applied systems analysis; the theory and methods of social and economic forecasting; the problems of national security and strategic stability; the problems of information security; geopolitics, etc. The author of seven monographs and more than 200 articles. Member of the PIR Center EKS Working Group on International Information Security and Global Internet Governance since 2012.
