Training New Global Security Leaders

For example, today we intensified the process of the reduction of nuclear weapons - but not for the fact that this process will be brought to its logical end. And the more intense the elimination of nuclear weapons is, the more we should think about what will come to replace them,” - Member of PIR Center Executive Board, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Chief Research Officer at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Natalia Kalinina.

The XII PIR Center International Summer School on Global Security is coming to an end. Before summing up the school, awarding the best participants and organizing an educational tour through Moscow, it is time to take the interim results.

p7309_3.jpgOver the past two weeks, participants attended twenty-eight lectures; took part in round table discussions, debates, and seminars; conducted foresight and situational analysis. Two tours were organized; the young specialists visited the Roscosmos Mission Control Center, StarCity, and the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius. The training program was designed to show the future intellectual elite of the CIS countries how complex and diverse the sphere of international security has become and how much effort should be made to preserve peace and sustainable development.

Member of PIR Center Executive Board, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Chief Researcher at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Russian Academy of Sciences, Natalia Kalinina summarized the current state of world affairs, stating: “Mankind will never stop searching for new means of warfare. For example, today we intensified the process of the reduction of nuclear weapons - but not for the fact that this process will be brought to its logical end. And the more intense the elimination of nuclear weapons is, the more we should think about what will come to replace them.”

p7309_2.jpgOn June 30 in the framework of the Summer School young diplomats, researchers, journalists, and government officials met with Russian Deputy Minister of Defense Anatoly Antonov. During the meeting, participants presented the Deputy Minister of Defense with the results of a forecast they prepared on the future of the security architecture in the Eurasian space. They were also able to receive answers to their questions.

Other government officials who spoke at the school included Deputy Director of the Department on New Challenges and Threats of the Foreign Ministry of Russia Dmitry Feoktistov and Head of International Cooperation Department of the Federal Financial Monitoring Service Alexei Petrenko.
