Meeting of the Board of the Russian Defence Ministry: Development and Cooperation

MOSCOW, MARCH 1 2013. PIR PRESS«I suppose that the time for a serious discussion on the issue of European security has come. That is way we are going to hold an international conference in Moscow, in May, where the ministers of defense of the European states, the United States, Canada and other countries are invited together with the heads of  international organizations: NATO, EU, OSCE, CSTO» - Sergei Shoigu, Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation.”

The expanded meeting of the Board of the Russian Ministry of Defense was hold on February 27, 2013. Russian President Vladimir Putin, Defense Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov addressed the audience.
In his speech, Vladimir Putin pointed out the necessity to “support the military research centers” projects inclusive of the ones which specialize in drones and military robotics”.

Talking about the military cooperation Sergei Shoigu stated that: «I suppose that the time for a serious discussion on the issue of European security has come. That is way we are going to hold an international conference in Moscow, in May, where the ministers of defense of the European states, the United States, Canada and other countries are invited together with the heads of international organizations: NATO, EU, OSCE, CSTO».

On February 20, 2013 as a part of Midweek Brainstorming Sessions PIR Center held an informal seminar “Conventional Arms control in Europe: problems and decisions”. On February 13, 2013 PIR Center Senior Vice-President Evgeny Buzhinsky addressed the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation within the framework of the Security Dialogue as a special guest. In 2012 PIR Center released a new issue of its Study Papers: Russia and Global Security «Conventional Arms Control in Europe – End of Regime or to be Continued?» by Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Anatoly Antonov and independent expert Rodion Ayumov.
