International school on global security is open

ABRAMTSEVO, SEPTEMBER 26, 2016. PIR PRESS - "Today, solving practical issues of security we are confronted with fundamental issues of human nature, society, politics and law. Under these conditions, it is important for an expert to be able to go beyond one’s field. Therefore, in the school, we bring together scientists, diplomats, military officers, nuclear scientists, and lawyers, so that in the course of combined trainings and by communicating with each other and with key experts, participants and the organizers of the School open new opportunities for themselves and their activities", - Albert Zulkharneev, Director, PIR Center.     


The 16th International School on Global Security opened in the evening on September 24, 2016 in Abramtsevo, near Moscow. First classes took place on Sunday, September 25.

The School is organized by PIR Center and Center for Global Trends and International Organizations at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Welcoming the participants of the School, Vladimir  Orlov , Head of Center for Global Trends and International Organizations at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry, noted that conducting the School in Russian allows participants of different states not only metaphorically, but literally, to discuss global issues in another language - for some, it is a native language, for others – the language, which they are mastering. 

23 specialists from Armenia, Georgia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Syria, the USA, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are taking part in the School. They represent diplomatic and military agencies, companies, research centers and universities.

Albert Zulkharneev Director of PIR Center, drew attention to another peculiarity of the program:

First day of the program saw the traditional lecture and seminar conducted by Vladimir Orlov “Priorities of the Russian policy in the sphere of international security” and round table “The US-Russian relations and the future of global security” with Dmitriy Evstafiev PIR Center’s Executive Board member, Professor at Higher School of Economics and Andrey SushentsovDirector of the Analytical Agency “Foreign Policy Analysis Group”. . The thematic part of Nonproliferation started with the lecture of Andrey Baklitskiy, "Russia and Nuclear Nonproliferation" Program Director, “Tendencies of development in the global nuclear energy sector, and the international nuclear Nonproliferation regime".

The School is organized with the support of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, in cooperation with Trialogue Club International, Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport of the Swiss federal government, Carnegie Corporation of New York, Swedish Radiation Safety Authority, The International Committee of the Red Cross and Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.

On September 29, participants of the School will attend International Conference "Emerging Technologies and Global Security: an Agenda for 21st Century.”
