“As Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states relied on the United States and their vast energy resources for their external security, they did not feel the need to seriously consider the nuclear option for either peaceful or non-peaceful uses. None of these countries attempted to acquire the scientific and technical expertise necessary for the development of nuclear technologies. This situation is rapidly changing. While the political positions of these states remain the same with regard to nuclear weapons, they are exhibiting increased interest in nuclear power as a source of energy”, - Awadh Albadi, Director of the Department of Research and Studies at King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies.
