№ 37, 2024. PIR Alumni Community annual meeting took place within the framework of the XXIII International School on Global Security

ZVENIGOROD. SEPTEMBER 8, 2024. PIR PRESS. «Today, I’ve been looking at all of you and the work that PIR Center is doing to educate the younger generation and spread knowledge and high-level expertise (…) I’d like to congratulate PIR Center and hope for continued cooperation with our organization, the National Committee on BRICS Research», – Dr. Georgy Toloraya, Head of the Asian Strategy Center at the Institute of Economics RAS, Member of PIR Center Advisory Board.

As a culminating part of the PIR Center Day, held on the sidelines of the XXIII International School on Global Security, a gala dinner took place commemorating the 30th anniversary of PIR Center, followed by the annual meeting of the PIR Alumni Community members. Traditionally, the meeting was held in the format of the III Maslin-Fest.

“The versatility of Gen. Evgeny Maslin’s personality and his creative character prompted me to ask his family to establish the Maslin Fest as it is now”, – Dr. Vladimir Orlov, Founding Director of PIR Center, noted.

Dr. Vadim Kozyulin, a member of PIR Center Executive Board and Consultant of the PIR Center’s Global & Regional Security: New Ideas for Russia Program, Head of the Center for Global Studies & International Relations at the Institute of Contemporary International Studies of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, moderated the event.

The III Maslin-Fest was attended by students and lecturers of the XXIII International School on Global Security, members of PIR Center Advisory Board and PIR Center Executive Board, and the alumni of the PIR Center educational projects. Among the latter, for example, were Natalia Artemenkova, Member of the PIR Alumni Community; Igor Bondar, Deputy Chairman, Public Organization “Prioritet” (Priority); Igor Efremov, Third Category Engineer, “ITC DZHET”; Oleg Krivolapov, Senior Research Fellow, Institute of USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Adlan Margoev, Research Fellow and Lecturer, MGIMO University; Daria Pakhomova, PhD Student, MGIMO University; Vitaly Romanovsky, Chief Advisor of the Foreign Policy Department, Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies; Daria Selezneva, Junior Research Fellow, IMEMO RAS; Sergey Semenov, Research Fellow, PIR Center; Ekaterina Sokolova, Assistant to the Vice-President, Russian Academy of Sciences; Andrei Torin, Columnist, Mezhdunarodnaya Zhizn’ Journal; Alexander Chekov, Research Fellow and Lecturer, MGIMO University; Alisa Chirko, Editor, Russian Military Review Magazine; Oleg Shakirov, Author of the Kibervojna (Cyberwarfare) Telegram channel; Alexey Shlyapin, Deputy Director for Research, Institute for Problems of Integrated Development of the Subsoil RAS; and many others.

Like in 2022 and 2023, the III Maslin Fest included creative performances by the participants of the event. Therefore, the solemn program included the poems of Vladimir Vysotsky and Alexander Pushkin, performed in Russian and foreign languages. Thus, Dr. Vladimir Orlov and the students of the XXIII International School on Global Security, namely Azim Vakhidov, Maxim Kucherov, Mikhail Luchina, Gennady Novitsky, Alexander Pavlov, and Arnoldo Armenta Traslavinha presented their author’s reading. Daria Pakhomova, Sergey Semenov, and Igor Bondar performed their poetry, while Oleg Shakirov marked the event with an original rap composition. Guitar songs performed by Dr. Vadim Kozyulin, Igor Bondar, and Maxim Nosenko, as well as by other guests, became integral to the event.

The highlight of the evening was sincere toasts and warm congratulations to PIR Center from the participants, particularly Dr. Georgy Toloraya and Mr. Gleb Efremov, Members of PIR Center Advisory Board.

The III Maslin-Fest culminated with singing the PIR Center’s hymn, followed by informal talks and further celebrations.

“It was enchanting (…) our best event in this format – bright and expressive! The atmosphere is definitely worth a lot; thank you all for such a heart-warming holiday”, – Dr. Vladimir Orlov, Founding Director of PIR Center, concluded.
