Amb. Shustov was born in 1930 in Leningrad. He graduated the faculty of history of the MGIMO in 1953 and in 1956 finished his postgraduate studies there. In 1957-2002 Dr. Shustov served in the Foreign Ministry. He participated in the numerous nego tiations on disarmament issues (testban treaties, NPT, etc.). In 1979-1986 he worked in New York as Deputy Permanent Representative of the U.S.S.R to the United Nations. In 1992-1995 he represented Russia in the OSCE and headed the delegation at the CFE talks. Until 2002 he was ambassador at large at the MFA.

Brigadier General Bojesen joined the military service in 1974. Two years later he graduated the Specialized Army School (as a military translator from Russian). He then served as a staff officer in the Danish Armed Forces. In 19951996 he headed the Danish national intelligence cell (DANIC) at the IFOR headquarters in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 19961998 he served in the Main Operational Control Directorate (peace keeping operations) of the Supreme Command of the Danish Armed Forces. In 19992000 he was Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Danish peacekeeping contingent within KFOR in Kosovo. After graduating the General Staff Academy of the Russian Federation, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in 2003. He served as the Chairman of the Senate of Kazakhstan since January 2007. He also occupied the position of Minister for Foreign Affairs (1994-1999) and Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2002-2007). Dr. Tokayev also served as Prime Minister of Kazakhstan from 1999 to 2002.

Anatoly Torkunov was born in Russia in 1950. He holds an MA and two doctoral degrees in Political Science from MGIMO-University. Since 1974, he has taught at MGIMO as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor at the Department of Oriental Studies and Department of International Relations and Foreign Policy of Russia. In 2003, he was elected Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and in 2008 he became Full Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1974–1977, he served as assistant to Rector of MGIMO. In 1977–83, he was Dean and Vice-Rector for External Relations, in 1986–92 — Dean of the School of International Relations, First Vice-Rector and Head of the Department of Oriental Studies. Since 1992, he has served as Rector of MGIMO-University. In 1971–72 and 1983–86, Anatoly Torkunov served at Soviet Embassies in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the United States of America. He has the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

Graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Affairs (MGIMO). Served as Permanent Representative of Hungary to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva and the Conference on Disarmament since 2003, a position he had also held from 1990 to 1993. In the years from 2001 to 2003, he was Ambassador-at-Large for Nonproliferation and Critical Technologies with the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1997 to 2001, he was the Permanent Representative of Hungary to the UN and other international organizations in Vienna. From 1997 to 2001 he served as Governor on the Board of Governors of the IAEA. He participated in all follow-up conferences of the Biological Weapons Convention and in the NPT Review Conferences in 1980, 1985, 1990 and 2005. From 1982 to 1992 he took part in the negotiations of the Chemical Weapons Convention and played a crucial role in the Preparatory Commission for the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons from 1993 to 1997. Since the establishment of the Preparatory Commission for the CTBTO in November 1996 and through 2004, he was the Chairperson of Working Group A, the subsidiary body of the Commission responsible for budgetary and administrative matters.

 

 

 

 

 

Trenin, Dmitry V. image

Biography :

Candidate of Historical Sciences. He retired from the Russian Army in 1993. From 1993-1997, Trenin held posts as a Senior Research Fellow at the NATO Defense College in Rome and a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Europe in Moscow. He served in the Soviet and Russian armed forces from 1972 to 1993, including experience working as a liaison officer in the External Relations Branch of the Group of Soviet Forces (stationed in Potsdam) and as a staff member of the delegation to the U.S.-Soviet nuclear arms talks in Geneva from 1985 to 1991. He also taught at the war studies department of the Military Institute from 1986 to 1993. Dmitry Trenin received his Ph.D. from the Institute of the USA and Canada in 1984.
