Igor Istomin is an Acting Chair at the Department of Applied International Political Analysis and Lead Research Fellow at the Center for Advanced American Studies, Institute for International Studies, MGIMO University. He is also an executive editor of Mezhdunarodnye protsessy (International Trends), which the leading Russian academic journal on IR theory. He holds Ph.D. and M.A. degrees from MGIMO as well as undergraduate degree from St. Petersburg State University.
Igor Istomin specializes in Russian-Western relations, US foreign policy, European security and alliance politics. He also teaches International Relations theory and methods of applied foreign policy analysis. Igor Istomin authored more than 90 academic publications in Russian and English. He contributes regularly to policy debates through commentaries for media and think tanks.
