PIR Center is the leading Russian non-governmental organization that specializes in the study of nuclear nonproliferation, disarmament, and global security issues. PIR Center conducts a wide range of scientific, organizational, consulting, and educational activities aimed at strengthening the role and place of the Russian expert community in the world and defending Russia’s national interests at the international level.

Areas of activity of PIR Center:
— Nuclear Nonproliferation & Russia Program is a core program of PIR Center, within the framework of which a number of research projects of an applied nature are being implemented. The place and role of Russia in the review process of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), the problems of arms control, the situation around Iran’s nuclear program, the prospects for the development of nuclear energy in the Middle East, the possibility of a Russian-Chinese dialogue on global security issues are analyzed. The program is also aimed at organizing assistance to the Russian-American dialogue in the field of global security.
PIR Center is actively involved in preserving and transmitting the historical memory of the role of Russian diplomats and the military in shaping the modern architecture of arms control, disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation. Within the framework of this direction, the scientific and educational project Oral History of Nuclear Nonproliferation: Voices from Russia is being implemented, which has no analogues in Russia.
— Global & Regional Security: New Ideas for Russia, a program that implements scientific and applied projects to find new ideas for Russia’s foreign and defense policy. PIR Center takes an active part in discussions on updating the European security agenda, explores the prospects for BRICS cooperation on global security issues and pays special attention to studying the problems and opportunities that the development of new technologies and artificial intelligence brings.
— Educational program. Over the 29 years of its active educational and training activities, PIR Center has been able to build a broad international community of international affairs specialists – the PIR Alumni Community, the core of which is more than 800 graduates of PIR Center’s main educational projects: the International School on Global Security; International Dual-Degree MA Program in Global Security, Nuclear Policy, and WMD Nonproliferation Studies, implemented by PIR Center, MGIMO University and the Middlebury Institute for International Studies in Monterey, USA; training and lecture courses; internship and practice programs; International Timerbaev Nuclear Debates, etc. Within the framework of this program, the scientific and educational online platform NONPROLIFERATION.WORLD operates.
— Information program. An important place in the work of PIR Center is occupied by information and analytical activities, which are carried out in the format of the regular release of scientific notes of PIR Center Security Index Occasional Paper Series, PIR Press newsletters, PIRogue and PIR Post analytical posts. The program is focused on promoting PIR Center projects through the website and social networks, as well as building a dialogue with the media.
PIR Center also has a Program of Cooperation with Partners, which includes interaction within the framework of PIR Center Advisory Board, the Trialogue Club International, MGIMO of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, etc.
PIR Center has longstanding and extensive ties with leading domestic and foreign research institutions, government and non-government experts. All this allows PIR Center to remain one of the most authoritative Russian centers participating in the international discussion on the problems of nuclear non-proliferation, arms control, nuclear disarmament and global security.
