On July 3, 2010, PIR Center received a special consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
“Special consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council will enhance weight and authority of your organization in Russian and international NGO-community. Using this new opportunity to broaden international outreach of PIR Center’s activities is on the top of the agenda,” the Director of the Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Gennady Gatilov noted in his letter to the PIR Center.
From now on, PIR Center can send its recommendations to the Council and cooperate more actively with the UN bodies in different formats.
“Acquisition of the special consultative status with ECOSOC is an honor for our organization. We view this decision as an acknowledgment of our experience in Russia and abroad and an expression of trust from one of the main UN institutions which coordinates social and economic development issues. PIR Center and our experts are now facing new opportunities to bring our ideas and proposals to the UN institutions in the intersecting areas of sustainable development and global security, primarily in spheres of nuclear energy and nuclear nonproliferation,” President of the PIR Center Vladimir Orlov said.
