PIR Center Midweek Brainstorming Session on the topic “Civil Nuclear Facilities during Armed Conflicts: Security Issues and Prevention of Terrorist Attacks”

On April 17, 2024, PIR Center will hold an expert seminar on the topic “Civil Nuclear Facilities during Armed Conflicts: Security Issues and Prevention of Terrorist Attacks”.

In recent days, the escalation around the Zaporozhye NPP has reached a critical point, since the start of Special Military Operation in Ukraine. On April 7, the ZNPP was attacked, which again triggered the discussions about potential nuclear disaster.

Mr. Sviatoslav Arov, PIR Center Junior Research Fellow, will present his research paper dedicated to civil nuclear facilities during armed conflicts. The focus is on security issues and the prevention of terrorist attacks.

What international law tells about attacks on civil nuclear facilities? What historical examples of armed attacks on civil nuclear facilities exist? And how the world respond to them? How are protected nuclear facilities from terrorist attacks? What could be when a nuclear facility is seized by another country. Answers to these and many other questions, as well as an analysis of the current situation around ZNPP, will be provided within the Midweek Brainstorming Session

The PIR Center Midweek Brainstorming Session on the topic “Civil Nuclear Facilities during Armed Conflicts: Security Issues and Prevention of Terrorist Attacks” will be held on April 17 (Wednesday) from 05:30 to 07:30 pm (Moscow Time Zone, GMT+3) via Yandex.Telemost platform in Russian.
