Born in 1955 in Omsk, USSR. In 1978 graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Held various positions within the Ministry and its foreign missions. 2002 – 2004: Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry. 2004 – 2011: Director of the Department of Security and Disarmament of the Ministry, member of the Russian Foreign Ministry Board. 2011 – 2016: Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation. 2016 – 2017: Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation responsible for general issues of military and political security. On August 21, 2017 Vladimir Putin issued an Executive Order appointing Anatoly I. Antonov Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United States of America and, concurrently, Permanent Observer of the Russian Federation to the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C. Holds a PhD in political science. Holds a diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, assigned in July 2007. Actual state councillor of the Russian Federation, 1 class. Decorated with the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland”, 4th class, the Order of Alexander Nevsky, the Order of Honor (twice), the Order “For Military Merit”, the Order of Friendship, as well as a number of medals. Speaks English and Burmese. Has one daughter.
