A.I.Nikitin is a well–known Russian international scholar, an expert on international security, international conflicts, peacekeeping operations, and the activities of international organizations. A.I.Nikitin has been working at MGIMO (U) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for more than 30 years, since 1989. Since 2004, he has been the director of the Center for Euro-Atlantic Security of the MGIMO Institute of International Studies. A.I.Nikitin graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of Lomonosov Moscow State University and postgraduate studies at the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Academy of Sciences. He defended his PhD thesis in history and his doctoral dissertation in political sciences, holds the academic title of professor. For more than 30 years of scientific work, Professor Nikitin has created a scientific school for research on UN peacekeeping operations and other international organizations. The research conducted by him and under his leadership in this area is directly implemented in the practice of the activities of the structures of the United Nations, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. He was the main developer of the adopted CIS Model Law “On state Participation in peacekeeping operations” and played a key role in drafting a new UN Convention on regulating the activities of private military and Security Companies. At the end of five years of work on the draft Convention, A.I. Nikitin officially presented this document at a meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York. A.I.Nikitin published monographic studies “Conflicts. Terrorism. Peacemaking”, “Peacekeeping operations: concepts and practice”, “Peacekeeping operations in the CIS”, participated in scientific and expert work on doctrinal support for the creation of Collective Peacekeeping Forces of the CSTO. A.I.Nikitin is the author of more than 200 scientific papers, including 7 monographs, three textbooks, more than 40 works of the scientist have been published in foreign languages (English, German, French, Spanish, Chinese, Tamil, Korean, etc.), including in leading foreign publishing houses, including Oxford University Press, MacMillan Press, and leading foreign journals (“Strategic Analysis”, “The Futurist”, “Business and Contemporary World”, “Low Intensity Conflict”, etc.). A significant part of A.I.Nikitin’s activity is connected with international scientific forums, institutes, centers, work in international structures. He completed a diplomatic internship at the UN Mission, and in 2006-2012 represented Eastern Europe and the CIS countries in the Expert Group at the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, participated in numerous projects at the UN New York and Geneva centers. He worked as a visiting researcher at the Institute of Security Problems of the European Union (Paris, France), at the Royal Institute of International Relations of Great Britain (London). A.I.Nikitin was a participant in more than 200 international scientific conferences and seminars in 80 countries, organizer of international scientific forums in Russia and abroad. In particular, recently, on behalf of the Russian Foreign Ministry, A.I. Nikitin spoke at OSCE meetings, organized the CSTO Scientific and Expert Council, headed the Russian delegation at the SCO Forum (Kazakhstan), represented Russia at the events of the Asian Regional Forum (New Zealand), participated on behalf of MGIMO in the creation of the League of BRICS Universities (China), headed a delegation of UN experts in Afghanistan, repeatedly formed and led sections at RAMI Conventions and RAPN Congresses, made presentations at world congresses of the International Political Science Association (in the USA, the Republic of Korea, Chile, Spain) and World Philosophical Congresses (in the Republic of Korea, Greece, etc.). For more than 30 years, A.I.Nikitin has been actively engaged in scientific and organizational activities in the leadership of the Russian Association of Political Science – the main professional association of Russian political scientists. A.I.Nikitin was elected President of the Russian Association of Political Science (RAPN) in 2004-2008, for a decade heads the RAPN Council for International Cooperation, was elected Honorary President of RAPN. For more than 15 years, A.I.Nikitin has represented Russia in the World Pugwash Council of Scientists (the organization operates in 62 countries and has received the Nobel Peace Prize), is Deputy Chairman of the Russian Pugwash Committee of Scientists for International Security and Disarmament at the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He has organized more than 15 Pugwash conferences in Russia. A.I.Nikitin was elected a full member of the Academy of Political Science, a full member of the Academy of Military Sciences, represents MGIMO and Russia in the International Network of Peacekeeping Operations Research. A.I.Nikitin was awarded Honorary Diplomas of the President of Russia and the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, the Order of the CIS “Commonwealth”, the CSTO Medal, the Medal of Appreciation of the Republic of Armenia, as well as the medal of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly for his contribution to the development of three Model Laws adopted on his initiative.
