Founded in 1955.

The main task of VNIITF is to solve scientific and technical problems related to ensuring and maintaining the reliability and safety of Russia’s nuclear weapons. The Center developed more than half of the country’s current nuclear arsenal. At the same time, the VNIITF Nuclear Center is responsible for the author’s and warranty supervision of nuclear charges and nuclear munitions at all stages of the product cycle — from construction design to dismantling and disposal of the main components of the nodes. VNIITF played an active, and in some areas key role in the development and implementation of the soviet program of peaceful nuclear explosions. In 75 of 124 peaceful explosions carried out in the USSR, were used 80 nuclear explosive devices developed at VNIITF.

PIR Center Advisory Board Member since 1999.
