He was born on February 4, 1957, in Moscow. In his youth, he lived in the U.S. and studied in an American school. In 1979, he graduated from the Faculty of International Journalism of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR. In 1979-1986, he worked in the international department of the newspaper “Komsomolskaya Pravda”. In 1986-1990 — Head of the APN regional office in France and own correspondent of the newspaper “Moscow News” in France. In 1990-1995 — columnist, member of the editorial board of the newspaper “Moscow News”. In 1995-1997, he was the author and presenter of the journalistic program “Double Portrait” (VGTRK). Since 1997 — Editor-in-chief of the Russian magazine “GEO”. In 1997-1998 — presenter of the daily political program “Details” (VGTRK). In 1998-2000 — Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation — Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation B.N. Yeltsin. He is a major specialist in the field of mass media, public relations, as well as problems of democratization of society. He has extensive experience in journalistic and analytical activities. He has worked in international journalism for more than 20 years, specializing in political topics and collaborating with leading newspapers and TV companies in Russia and abroad. In November 2018, he stated that he was engaged only in teaching and was a professor at the HSE University. Member of the PIR Center Advisory Board since 2014. 10/22
