
On February 26, 2026, PIR Center jointly with MGIMO University hosted a seminar on the topic “Iran’s Nuclear Program: Past, Present, and Scenarios for the Forthcoming Future” within the framework of a series of seminars Burning Issues in International Security. Dr. Vladimir Orlov, PIR Center Founding Director, Professor at MGIMO University, has served as a keynote speaker. During his address, Dr. Vladimir Orlov has proceeded from the premise that “there is a nothing new under the sun,” emphasizing that yet today’s unprecedented situation amidst Iran and its nuclear program has own historical parallels.
Against the backdrop of today’s situation in the region, Dr. Vladimir Orlov has also stressed that we should look back at the history of Iran’s nuclear program, which he has been monitoring since 1992. Furthermore, Dr. Vladimir Orlov has attached a particular attention to the matter of informal mechanisms to prepare the elaboration of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2011–2014.




Mr. Grant Gevorgyan, 1st year graduate student of MA Program International Security (implemented jointly by MGIMO University and PIR Center), has addressed the topic of the current state of both Iranian nuclear program and the country’s nuclear infrastructure after the US–Iran war had ended in June 2025. Mr. Artem Astvatsaturov, Assistant to PIR Center Director, has analyzed probable scenarios of predicting the foreseeable situation in Iran.
The seminar has been held behind closed doors. This year, PIR Center will continue to host further discussion on Iranian nuclear program.
