MOSCOW. OCTOBER 8, 2025. PIR PRESS. «The joint educational product of MGIMO University and PIR Center opens up new opportunities for students by providing them with both a theoretical foundation in global security and practical skills during their study», – Dr. Vladimir Orlov, PIR Center Founding Director.
On September 18 and September 25, 2025, a series of welcome meetings for the students of the Master’s program “International Security”, educational initiative by MGIMO University and PIR Center, was held. The program aimed at educating professionals to staff foreign policy-oriented organizations, majoring in global security. Dr. Vladimir Orlov, PIR Center Founding Director, Professor at MGIMO University, and Academic Director of the MA program “International Security”, welcomed the students with an introductory speech. PIR Center Director highlighted peculiarities of the educational program, focusing on practical components of the MA program implementation, as well as put an emphasis on the program development, within which students will be able to solve practical cases and discuss burning issues in international security jointly with practicing experts in this field.
Dr. Vladimir Orlov also touched upon the topic of employment prospects for the program graduates, highlighting the high significance of the skills acquired for working in leading organizations, involved in international security.
This year, 26 students from Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Chad, and Japan were enrolled in the MA program “International Security”. Students of the educational program shared their impressions of applying to the program and their expectations of studying at MGIMO University:
“Getting a MA degree is not just about getting a diploma. It is my childhood dream and a significant step towards making my opinions more informed. I am confident that intensive study at MGIMO University is an important component in the transition from words to real action,” said Mr. Ahmat Mahamat Tahir Bahit (Republic of Chad).
“As a foreign student and representative from Tajikistan, I would like to note that the welcome meeting of the MA program was held at a high level. It was very pleasant to receive my student ID card and feel like a student of MGIMO University,” said Mr. Mirodil Mukimov (Tajikistan).
At the second welcome meeting on September 25, 2025, Dr. Vladimir Orlov, Founding Director of PIR Center, told graduate students about the activity of PIR Center, drawing special attention to the implementation of the organization’s flagship projects in the following programs “Applied Research & Policy Recommendation Program”; “Education & Training Program”; “Information, Publications & Digital Communications”; “PIR Alumni Community”. PIR Center Founding Director also mentioned the PIR Center’s flagship educational projects, including the International School on Global Security.
“The School on Global Security is one of the PIR Center’s flagship and key projects, bringing together more than 500 alumni around the globe. The school is held annually and is an excellent opportunity for those who plan to improve their knowledge of burning international security issues,” Dr. Vladimir Orlov stressed.
At the end of the meeting, students were told about a joint initiative by PIR Center and MGIMO University – Vyacheslav I. Trubnikov Grant Competition. The competition is held annually among students of the program, and the winner will receive exemption from tuition fees for the second, third, and fourth semesters of the master’s program.
