MOSCOW. APRIL 30, 2025. PIR PRESS. «Uniqueness, the absolute peculiarity of PIR Center as a phenomenon of our life is obvious to many, including those who have little interest in ‘hard’ security. For a long time, the heart of PIR Center has been beating together with the country. There will be young researchers, diplomats, and scientists who will raise their glasses to all of history and to new successes. And I will do it right now. Best wishes to Vladimir Orlov, I wish you new heights and insights. We are with you, the Foreign Ministry supports you», – H.E. Sergey Ryabkov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister.
April 30 is the birthday of PIR Center. Our institution turns 31 years old. We meet the birthday in a working rhythm, by developing current projects and preparing innovative ones. On this day, we would like to remind you what our friends, partners, members of PIR Alumni Community and all those who have been with PIR Center all these years have said about us. Particularly, what they told a year ago, when PIR Center celebrated its 30th anniversary, and we received many congratulations from all over the world.
“I followed very attentively how PIR Center was developing. I tried to help and to contribute to the development of the problems that this non-governmental organization was dealing with. In my view, the issues of nonproliferation, arms control and strategic stability are the most successful today; it seems to me that in this area the colleagues have been succeeded. It is very important to me that PIR Center team is a combination of both experienced specialists and young fellows who now touching the wonders of today’s world, the subtleties of this issue,” – Dr. Anatoly Antonov, Russian Ambassador to the United States (2017-2024); PIR Center Сonsultant 2006-2014.
PIR Center has always been at the cutting edge of development in the use of new technologies, not only in its research. PIR Center was one of the first in Russia to launch its own website, as Alexey Zakharov, Founder and President of the Recruitment Portal Superjob.ru; PIR Center’s Deputy Director 1996-1997, describes now. “PIR Center’s website undoubtedly was one of the first websites of a non-profit organization in Russia – overall, at that time, there were about ten of them. I think PIR Center’s website appeared in the first top ten. I wish that PIR Center will be cozy and warm in a homely way for many years to come, that people will grow, develop, but feel at home, like in a family.”
PIR Center receives congratulations from all over the world. We have counted that our alumni represent 71 countries around the world. But nothing would have happened without Vladimir Orlov – the man who has been leading PIR Center all these years and unites all members of PIR Alumni Community.
Could anyone has imagined 31 years ago how many milestones PIR Center would reach under the guidance of its leader? We doubt that Vladimir Orlov himself could have conceived of this, as Sergey Demin, Regional Director of Rosatom International Network in East Asia recalls today, addressing to Vladimir Orlov, on his journey somewhere between Mongolia and Japan: “I remember well how 30 years ago, as young graduates of MGIMO University, we were thinking about what each of us would do in this life. Everyone’s ways were a little bit different, but I remember how you excited about the idea, and you managed to realize it. What you have done over these 30 years is impressive. I wish you and PIR Center further success and world popularity.”
The key to the success of the organization is not only in the wise leadership, but also in the high professionalism of employees and strict discipline, as Dr. Dmitry Evstafiev, Russian political scientist, who was at the origins of PIR Center 31 years ago; PIR Center Research Fellow, 1998-2003, fairly says. “PIR Center was able [to succeed] primarily by relying on the highest level of professionalism, discipline, and organizational ability – what is called a corporate culture.”
“PIR Center is a mark of quality,” – Ms. Yulia Tseshkovskaya, Marketing Manager of Evocargo notes; she worked her way up at PIR Center from intern to Executive Assistant to Director from 2016 to 2020.
PIR Center has come a long way in 31 years, becoming a recognized authority on international security and nonproliferation. Numerous researches, educational programs, and expert opinions have made invaluable contributions to global and national security. Hundreds of specialists who have passed PIR Center’s school are now successfully working in Russia and abroad, applying their knowledge in practice. Thank you to everyone who has been and remains with us on this journey. We do not rest on our laurels and continue to move forward.
On the occasion of PIR Center’s birthday, we offer our readers to stroll in PIR Center’s virtual museum, to read the new issue of PIRogue in Russian or English, to look at the section on the website dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the organization, and raise the glasses for PIR. Those who wish to especially thank and support our activities can do so via the link.
