№ 3 (61), 2025. PIR Center interviewed Dr. Elena Suponina amid events in Syria

MOSCOW. FEBRUARY 9, 2025. PIR PRESS. «The events in Syria are part of a plan that will continue to be implemented in 2025», – Dr. Elena Suponina, Independent expert, PIR Center Advisory Board Member since 2024.

On December 8, 2024, anti-government forces in Syria gained control of key cities and entered the Syrian capital, Damascus. Subsequently, militants announced via a live stream that President Bashar al-Assad’s regime had been overthrown. These events are likely to contribute to growing geopolitical turbulence in the Middle East.

On January 14, 2025, Dr. Elena Suponina, an Independent expert and PIR Center Advisory Board Member since 2024, gave an interview to PIR Center amid the unfolding situation in Syria. During the discussion, she addressed key issues, including the domestic political developments in Syria, Iran’s role in the international arena following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, and an assessment of the stability of the coalition forces that came to power as a result of the regime’s collapse.

Later, Dr. Elena Suponina was interviewed by the newspaper “Svobodnaya Pressa,” where she referenced her conversation with PIR Center. Additionally, on January 23, 2025, the Saudi Center of Information and Arabian-Russian Studies translated PIR Center’s interview with Dr. Elena Suponina into Arabic.
