PIR Center Midweek Brainstorming Session on the topic “On Both Sides of the Persian Gulf: The Development of High-Tech Business in the Region and Russia’s Interests”

October 31, 2023

On November 9, 2023, PIR Center will hold an expert seminar on the topic “On Both Sides of the Persian Gulf: The Development of High-Tech Business in the Region and Russia’s Interests”.

The Persian Gulf States are going through another wave of intensive transformation. The regional powers, realizing the danger of the raw materials-centered economy, strive not only to integrate into high-tech industries but also to express themselves by taking up, if not leading, but prominent positions in the field. Even the most conservative powers are demonstrating a great interest in this occasion. Furthermore, to achieve higher goals, they are ready to make noticeable concessions that seemed unthinkable decades ago. However, the technology race that began in the region also has a downside. As the partnership in high-tech industries strengthens, tensions are also growing in the fields where there has been a relative balance of interests for years.

Mr. Leonid Tsukanov, Consultant of the PIR Center’s Global & Regional Security: New Ideas for Russia Program, will present the results of his research on the potential of the Persian Gulf States in high-tech. He will pay attention not only to the Gulf monarchies but also to the successes and failures of the actors from the opposite shore — Iraq and Iran.

The Midweek Brainstorming Session on the topic “On Both Sides of the Persian Gulf: The Development of High-Tech Business in the Region and Russia’s Interests” will take place on November 9 (Thursday) from 05:00 to 06:30 p.m. (Moscow Time Zone, GMT +3) via Microsoft Teams in Russian.

To take part in the seminar, you need to fill in the registration form at the link till November 7, 2023.

The research has been done in frames of implementing the PIR Center and MGIMO University joint project “Global Security, Strategic Stability, and Arms Control” under the auspices of the Priority-2030 Strategic Academic Leadership Program.
