Born on December 30, 1950.
In 1973, Vladimir G. Baranovski graduated from MGIMO University. In 1973–1976, he studied at the graduate school of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the USSR Academy of Sciences (now the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, IMEMO RAS). In 1991, he taught as a visiting professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium, and in 1995 — at the Université de Rennes, France. In 1992–1997 he led Russia’s Security Agenda Project in the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIРRI), Sweden. Vladimir G. Baranovski was a member of the SIPRI Governing Board. Since 2003 he has been the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 2011 he has been the Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 2005 he has been a Professor of the Department of International Relations and Foreign Policy of Russia, MGIMO University. Since 2016 he has been a Chief Research Scientist, a member of Directorate of IMEMO RAS, the Head of Research of the Center for Situational Analysis. Vladimir G. Baranovski is a member of the Scientific Council of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, SVOP, the Russian Council for International Affairs (RIAC), the Federal Educational and Methodological Association of the enlarged group of specialties and training areas 41.00.00. “Political Sciences and Regional Studies”. He is a member of the Bureau of the Department of Global Problems and International Relations, the Presidium of the Russian International Studies Association (RISA), the Board of the Russian Political Science Association (RPSA), the Scientific Council of the Andrei A. Gromyko Association of Foreign Policy Studies. Vladimir G. Baranovski is the Chairman of the Expert Commission of the Russian Academy of Sciences on awarding the Yevgeny V. Tarle Prize for the best scientific works in the field of world history and modern development of international relations. He is a member of the Academic Council and the Chairman of the Dissertation Council at IMEMO RAS. He participated as an expert in the work of the EU, OSCE and the Council of Europe. Vladimir G. Baranovski is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), London, Great Britain, the Advisory Boards of the International Institute for Peace (IIP), Vienna, Austria, and the Toda Peace Institute, Tokyo, Japan. He was previously a member of the Advisory Board of the Hessische Stiftung Friedens- und Konfliktforschung (HSFK), Frankfurt, Germany, and the Strategic Council of the Institut français des relations internationales (IFRI), Paris, France. Vladimir G. Baranovski has published more than 300 scientific research works, which were published in Russia and abroad: in Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, Japan, USA.
