In 1998, Ivan A. Safranchuk graduated with honors from MGIMO University. In 1997–2001, he was a Research Fellow at PIR Center and the Director of the Nuclear Arms Control Program. From 2001 to 2006, he held the position of the Director of the Russian office of the International Center for Defense Information, which was later renamed the World Security Institute, Washington, D.C., USA. In 2006–2008, he was an Advisor to the World Security Institute and the international project Global Zero. In 2011–2014, he was the Deputy Head of the Institute of Contemporary International Studies of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Since 2003, he has been teaching at MGIMO University. Since 2007, he has been publishing the journal “Big Game: Politics, Business, Security in Central Asia”. Ivan A. Safranchuk is the author of more than 50 scientific and methodological papers in Russian and more than 20 scientific papers in foreign languages published in Afghanistan, the Great Britain, Germany, Italy, China, Norway, the USA, and Sweden. He is a Member of the Council on Foreign and Defence Policy (SVOP) and the Valdai Discussion Club. He is Professor of the Academy of Military Sciences and HSE University.
