A member of the International Trialog Club since 2012, he graduated from the Faculty of International Journalism of MGIMO (1975), worked for 4 years in Indonesia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR (the USSR Consulate General in Medan). He graduated from the graduate school of the Institute of Oriental Studies (1982), worked for more than a quarter of a century in the Academy of Sciences — first in IVRAN, then in IMEMO. He has trained and taught at universities in the Philippines, the UK, and the USA. From 2004 to 2010, he represented Russia on the Council of the European Association for the Study of Southeast Asia (EuroSEAS). Speaks Indonesian and English. His main research interests are the political development of Southeast Asian countries, the history and current state of ASEAN, regionalism and international relations in Asia. He is the author of three monographs, as well as many reports and articles published in Russia and abroad — in the USA, Great Britain, China, India, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Translated modern Indonesian prose into Russian, participated in the preparation of tourist guides to the Philippines and Indonesia, makes comments in the media (radio “Voice of Russia”, TV channel “Russia Today”). Since June 1, 2010 — Director of the ASEAN Center at MGIMO. In August 2010, he was awarded a commemorative badge of the Embassy of Indonesia in Moscow for his contribution to the development of Russian-Indonesian relations.
