In 1961, Viktor I. Yesin graduated from the Military Artillery Engineering Academy named after Felix E. Dzerzhinsky, and in 1983 from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR named after Kliment E. Voroshilov. In 1959–1996, he served in the Strategic Missile Forces. In 1994–1996, he held the position of the Chief of the General Staff of the Strategic Missile Forces, the First Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Strategic Missile Forces. In 1996–2002, he worked in the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation: first in the Office of the Defense Council as the Head of the department, Deputy Chief of Staff, and then in the office of the Security Council as the Head of the Military Security Department. Viktor I. Yesin was awarded the Order of Military Merit (1995), the Order of the Red Star (1989), the Order of the Badge of Honor (1977), the Order of Solidarity of Cuba (2008) and the presidential insignia “For impeccable service XL years” (2007).
