In 1961, he graduated from the Military Artillery Engineering Academy named after F.E. Dzerzhinsky with a degree in mechanical engineering, and in 1983 – the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR named after K.E. Voroshilov with a degree in command and staff, operational and strategic. Candidate of Military Sciences. From August 1959 to December 1996, he served in the Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN). In 1994–1996, he held the position of Chief of the General Staff of the Strategic Missile Forces – First Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Strategic Missile Forces. The military rank is Colonel-General. From December 1996 to February 2002, he worked in the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation: first in the office of the Defense Council as Head of the Department – Deputy Chief of Staff, and then in the office of the Security Council as Head of the Military Security Department. Presented for awards: the Order “For Military Merit” (1995), the Order of the Red Star (1989), the Order “Badge of Honor” (1977), the Order of the Republic of Cuba “Solidarity” (2008), and the presidential insignia “For impeccable service XL years” (2007).
