ZVENIGOROD. JULY 24, 2024. PIR PRESS. «Today, PIR Center is perceived as a leading Russian non-governmental organization in the international security field. Its insights and study papers on strategic stability, arms control, and nonproliferation of WMDs are distinguished by a high level of analytics (…) PIR Center’s educational initiatives are similarly significant (…) I am glad your team is keeping up with the times (…) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciates and values constructive cooperation with PIR Center», – H.E. Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister.

The PIR Center Day took place on the sidelines of the XXIII International School on Global Security as an intellectual feast, celebrating the 30th anniversary of our institute dealing, since 1994, with international security and foreign policy matters.

The PIR Center Day began with a panel discussion on “The Role of Russian NGOs in Maintaining International Security. Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of PIR Center.” Among those who shared their expert commentaries on the foreign policy-oriented work of NGOs and memories about the establishment and development of PIR Center were Dr. Vladimir Orlov, Founding Director of PIR Center; Dr. Vadim Kozyulin, a member of PIR Center Executive Board and consultant of the Global & Regional Security: New Ideas for Russia Program, Head of the Center for Global Studies & International Relations at the Institute of Contemporary International Studies of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation; Dr. Alexander Fedorov, a member of PIR Center Executive Board and an Associate Professor at the Department of Information Security of the Faculty of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Control Systems of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Victor Vasiliev, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), participated in the event as a special guest. Dr. Elena Chernenko, Co-Chair of the Trialogue Club International, Special Correspondent of the Kommersant Daily, and a member of PIR Center Executive Board, chaired the session.

“Wonderful people were at the forefront of the PIR Center’s establishment and development. Graduates, friends, and colleagues of PIR Center are our greatest asset and strength”, – Dr. Vladimir Orlov noted. Dr. Vadim Kozyulin emphasized that “PIR Center enjoys well-deserved authority worldwide, which is worth a lot. 30 years of experience and expertise consist of hard work.” Dr. Alexander Fedorov stressed that “PIR Center has become a platform that helps to look at the problems as they are, and not at their government-based or academic interpretation.” In conclusion, Ambassador Victor Vasiliev noted that “loyalty to the principles and ideals (…) allows to achieve good and meaningful results.”

The session concluded with a presentation of PIR Center’s educational projects and initiatives, such as internships and the joint Master’s program in International Security (in Russian) launched by PIR Center and MGIMO University, which commences this September.

The PIR Center Day culminated in an annual meeting of PIR Community members – the III Maslin-Fest – and a gala dinner to celebrate the organization’s 30th anniversary, which we will tell you about soon.
