Dr. Vladimir Baranovski is one of the leading academic specialists on the issues of European and global security. His lifelong service to Russian science and IMEMO is defined by his unwavering commitment to its excellence and his role in shaping the careers of numerous young researchers. For all his immense experience as a researcher and scientific administrator, he retains a keen interest in novel scientific methodologies and is a consistent champion of innovative work. Dr. Vladimir Baranovski possesses a rare talent for stimulating scientific discussions, even contentious at times, and moderating them in a constructive and respectful manner. He is a kind-hearted person, firmly associated – I believe, not only in my mind- with the image of a wise sea captain with a pipe in hand, a good sense of humour and unwavering attentiveness to both colleagues and students.
