MOSCOW. APRIL 29, 2026. PIR PRESS. Alexandra Zubenko has been appointed Deputy Director of PIR Center.
Announcing his decision, the Founder and Director of PIR Center said:
“It is especially rewarding to see Alexandra as part of the PIR Alumni Community – an alumna of our educational programs who has grown through every stage of PIR Center’s career path, from intern and trainee to Research Fellow, and now to Deputy Director. I would like to highlight Alexandra’s academic contributions to the study of international and regional security. Over the past several years, she has carried out rigorous and impactful research on the evolution of France’s nuclear policy. I would particularly note her report on this topic, which she presented at the United Nations Office at Geneva in November 2024 before ambassadors to the Conference on Disarmament, as well as UN diplomats and experts. Her analysis of Ukraine’s nuclear ambitions and capabilities laid the foundation of a dedicated PIR Center’s research paper published in February 2022, which received significant attention from the global expert community. Her most recent report, ‘Uranium Competition in the Sahel Region and Russia’s Interests. Current Situation. Assessment of Prospects. Recommendations,’ presented at a joint seminar of PIR Center and the Trialogue Club International in November 2025, has also been drawing considerable interest. In particular, the sections on Niger and Mali are highly relevant today. I would also like to note that Alexandra is an IAEA Fellow under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship Program.”

Alexandra will assume her new responsibilities on May 12. More information on her background and professional path can be found at the link: https://pircenter.org/en/experts/2757/
