Since 1973, Alexander G. Savelyev has been working at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the USSR Academy of Sciences (now the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, IMEMO RAS). In 1989–1991, as a representative of the USSR Academy of Sciences, he took part in the Soviet-American START-1 negotiations (Defense and Space Talks) representing the Academy of Sciences as an Adviser to the Soviet Delegation. Since 2017, he has been a Leading Research Fellow at the Faculty of World Politics of Lomonosov Moscow State University. He is a well-known expert in the field of Russian-American strategic relations, arms control, nuclear doctrines and strategies, and security decision-making.
