The Commission on the Legacy of Lieutenant General Gennady M. Evstafiev recalls that the competition for the IV Evstafiev Award for the best research in international security is in full swing! As before, PIR Center is organizing the competition, with the submission deadline on October 15.

In 2021, in memory of Gennady Evstafiev, an outstanding Soviet and Russian intelligence officer and diplomat, Lieutenant General of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, one of the patriarchs of nuclear nonproliferation, PIR Center established the competition for Gennady Evstafiev Award, or the Evstafiev Award, for the best research work in the field of international security.

The competition is held among young Russian and foreign researchers whose works were published in the PIR Center’s Security Index and Security Index Occasional Paper Series, as well as in the Reports Series and Analyses (as part of the Yaderny Kontrol E-Bulletin), or were accepted by the Commission on the Legacy of Lieutenant General Gennady M. Evstafiev.

Within the competition, PIR Center seeks to receive research papers dedicated to relevant issues of international security. More information about the research topics can be found here.

  • The works can be presented in Russian or English.
  • Citizenship and the author’s place of residence do not matter.
  • At the time of submission of the work for consideration, the author should not be older than 30 years old.

In frames of the competition, the submitted works are examined by the Commission on the Legacy of Lieutenant General Gennady M. Evstafiev. The submitted papers must be exclusive; submission of the documents implies that the contestants agree to provide PIR Center with the copyright.

List of winners of the Evstafiev Award:

In 2023, the III Evstafiev Award took place within the framework of the Global Security: A View from Russia for the Youth Around the World project, with the support of the Presidential Grants Foundation.

The Award this year is 300 000 rub.

The Commission on the Legacy of Lieutenant General Gennady M. Evstafiev and PIR Center Executive Board members will announce the competition’s results on November 15 during a ceremonial meeting celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Yaderny Kontrol Journal, PIR Center’s flagship publication.
