Sharon Squassoni received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Sciences at the State University of New York at Albany, USA. She completed Master’s Program in Public Administration at the University of Maryland, College Park, USA. She also received a Master’s degree in National Security from National War College, Washington, D.C., USA. In 1992–2001, she worked in the US government, including the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation (ISN) and the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs (PM) of the US Department of State. She completed her service at the State Department as the Director of Policy Coordination at the Bureau of Nonproliferation. In 2002–2007, as the Chief Specialist on weapons of mass destruction of the Congressional Research Service (CRS), she advised members of Congress. In 2007–2009, she held the position of a Senior Researcher of the Nuclear Policy Program of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Washington, D.C., USA. Since 2010, she has been leading the Nonproliferation Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Washington, D.C., USA. For some time she was a correspondent for the Washington bureau of “Newsweek” magazine. She was also a Member of the Sustainable Partnership with Russia Group. She is a Member of the Bulletin’s Science and Security Board. She has been a winner of various professional awards and MacArthur Fellows Program. Sharon Squassoni is the author of numerous publications and commentaries for American and world media.
