Born on August 19, 1957.

In 1979, Andrey V. Kortunov graduated from MGIMO University. In 1982, he completed his postgraduate studies at the Institute for US and Canadian Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1982–1995, he worked at the Institute for US and Canadian Studies. From 1995 to 1997, he held the position of the Deputy Director of the Institute. He taught international relations at European and American universities, including The University of Miami, USA (1990), Lewis & Clark College, Portland, USA (1992), and The University of California, Berkeley, USA (1993). He was also the Head of a number of Russian public organizations and foundations in the fields of higher education, social sciences, and social development.

From 2011 to 2023, Andrey V. Kortunov served as the Director General of the Russian Council for International Affairs (RIAC). Since 2023, he has been the Academic Director of RIAC. He is a member of the expert, supervisory, and trustee boards of many Russian and international public organizations, and a member of the editorial boards of several academic journals. He has numerous publications in Russia and abroad.
